Title: Protease inhibitors activity in lepromatous leprosy and lepra reaction. Author: Yemul VL, Sengupta SR, Dhole TN. Journal: Lepr India; 1983 Jan; 55(1):91-4. PubMed ID: 6603564. Abstract: Serum alpha one antitrypsin levels were measured in 50 healthy age and sex matched controls with 45 lepromatous leprosy cases and 5 cases of lepra reaction. It was noted that the mean level in healthy controls was 281.00 mg%, while the mean levels in LL patients was 421.00 mg% and in LR 570.00 mg%. The elevation of Alpha one antitrypsin was statistically significant in LL patients. It is possible that the rise is a reaction to release of proteases and or higher complement activity, which are the results of a high bacillary loading to formation of immune complexes.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
