  • Title: Seizures and pregnancy.
    Author: Clifford DB.
Journal: Am Fam Physician; 1984 Mar; 29(3):271-5. PubMed ID: 6702548.
    Abstract:
Managing epilepsy during pregnancy requires frequent monitoring of medication, avoidance of fatigue, and strict compliance with appropriate medications. While epileptic mothers as a group have approximately twice the usual rate of fetal malformations, only trimethadione has been proved to be teratogenic in humans. Thus, maintaining effective serum levels of the usual anticonvulsants is the safest way to manage the epileptic mother and the fetus.
