  • Title: [Sexually communicable diseases: current status in Sweden].
    Author: Wallin J.
Journal: Hautarzt; 1980 May; 31(5):233-6. PubMed ID: 6893193.
    Abstract:
In Sweden there are strict laws that traditional venereal diseases must be reported. In the years 1950-1978 only very few cases of syphilis were registered. The rate of gonorrhea increased from 1959-1970 and then there was a marked decrease. Possible reasons for these changes are discussed. In 7% of all men and 9% of all women with genital gonorrhea gonococci were found in the tonsillar region. Seventeen asymptomatic patients were followed without treatment; after 12 weeks all were culture-negative. The percentage of patients with non-gonococcal urethritis remained the same for the years 1972-1976. In 25% of these patients chlamydial infections could be detected. In women with acute salpingitis chlamydia were isolated in 36%.
