  • Title: [Mutagenic action of benz(a)pyrene and its metabolites in the in vitro Salmonella typhimurium-microsomes test system].
Author: Tolcheev IuD, Khitrovo IA, Kobliakov VA.
Journal: Biull Eksp Biol Med; 1980 Aug; 90(8):208-10. PubMed ID: 6996763.
    Abstract:
It has been shown that epoxides are responsible for the mutagenic action of benz(a)pyrene in the system. S. typhimurium. The mutagenic effect produced by 6-hydroxybenz(a)pyrene that is consequent on the free radical processes is reversed by alpha-tocopherol. Diolepoxides with spatially separated functional groups do not elicit any mutagenic effect.
