Abstract: The legal ramifications of proposed legislation to prohibit abortion and to confer personhood on fetuses are examined in terms of their effect on the rights and liability of physicians and pregnant women in decisions involving maternal versus fetal health and life. Other possible consequences include the prohibition of certain contraceptive methods, effect on property and inheritance rights of fetuses, and restriction of important fetal research.
