    Abstract:
    Morphological and histochemical endometrial findings in 90 women with Lippes Loop IUDs, inserted postpartum and used for 20-50 months, are presented. Endometrial morphofunctional changes were delayed in 33 women, and inflammatory infiltrates in the endometrial stroma and leucocytes in the uterine glandular lumen were established in 37 women. These changes are not regarded as signs of endometritis but appear to be the means by which the IUD exerts its contraceptive effect on a number of patients. (author's modified)
