    Abstract:
    Hartmann's operation has been too frequently underrated. The new reconstructive potential offered by the EEA stapler is steadily widening the indications for Hartmann's operation. In the treatment of complicated acute diverticulitis in particular. Hartmann's operation significantly lowers postoperative mortality and morbidity. The results in 130 cases of acute diverticulitis undergoing emergency surgery are discussed.
