    Abstract:
In cases of interruption prostaglandin F2 alpha gel is applied intracervically and leads to dilatation of the cervix without any damage. This form of the therapy can be recommended because of its good results and harmless side effects. Prostaglandin F2 alpha gel was applied intracervically to induce cervical dilatation in 328 cases of induced abortion. The subjects were 15-27 years of age and nulliparae. In 59.8% of the cases, a complete or incomplete abortion occurred within 12-15 hours of the infusion. In 37.2% of the cases, the cervix had dilatated to the point that no mechanical dilatation was necessary to perform an induced abortion. The procedure failed in 7 cases. The only serious side effects were 4 cases of serious bleeding after incomplete abortion and 1 case of atonic bleeding after the curettage.
