  • Title: Spontaneous rupture of the pregnant uterus following voluntary interruption of pregnancy.
    Author: Fehr PE.
Journal: Minn Med; 1981 Apr; 64(4):203-4. PubMed ID: 7231384.
    Abstract:
This is the case report of an incidence of spontaneous rupture of a pregnant uterus. The report describes the case of a 22-year-old woman who was admitted near term with a pregnancy complicated by borderline elevated blood pressure. 3 voluntary pregnancy interruptions at 18, 8, and 14 weeks respectively and 1 normal spontaneous delivery had preceded this pregnancy. On caesarean delivery, fundal rupture of the uterus was identified. Hysterectomy was necessary to repair this extensive damage, probably caused by 1 of the preceding induced abortions. In cases where patients present as a possible placenta abruptio, possible uterine perforation should be suspected if there have been previous induced abortions.
