    Abstract:
    Microscopic examinations of the endometrium were conducted in 53 women who had been using the Lippes Loop IUD for 3-9 years. The most frequent abnormality observed (in 27 of 48 women) was evidence of uneven endometrial response to hormonal stimuli and delayed secretory phase. In 6 cases, endometrial inflammation and in 4 cases squamous metaplasia of the cylindrical epithelium were found. A typical proliferation was never discovered in the endometrium. (author's)
