  • Title: [Iron therapy of anemia in pregnancy and puerperium].
    Author: Nietfeld C.
Journal: Fortschr Med; 1981 Sep 10; 99(34):1370-2. PubMed ID: 7286883.
    Abstract:
The influence of oral iron medication was tested in patients with anemia in pregnancy and puerperium. The investigation included 22 women in pregnancy and 40 in puerperium. 110 mg Fe++ (Ce ferro forte) were given daily. Hemoglobin, red cells and hematocrit were tested before the beginning of therapy and four weeks later. In pregnancy the regeneration of hemoglobin takes longer than in the postnatal period. Though normal homoglobin concentrations are reached after eight weeks of therapy, continuation of therapy is indicated up to delivery. The treatment of postnatal anemia must be continued for 6-8 weeks after normalization of hemoglobin concentration.
