Title: [Profuse nasal hemorrhages caused by traumatic damage to the subclinoid portion of the internal carotid artery]. Author: Khil'ko VA, Golovashchenko NV. Journal: Zh Vopr Neirokhir Im N N Burdenko; 1980; (2):9-13. PubMed ID: 7386099. Abstract: Profuse nasal hemorrhages caused by injury to the subclinoid part of the internal carotid artery in parabasal fractures of the skull and contusion of the brain were encountered in 6.5% of cases. Hemorrhages occurring some time after the injury are linked with rupture of the wall of a false aneurysm or a carotid-cavernous anastomosis. Hemorrhages into the sphenoidal sinus in injury to the internal carotid artery are extremely hazardous and call for a complex of urgent measures. The character of injury to the internal carotid artery is determined by angiography. Occlusion of the site of the rupture of the internal carotid artery with F.A. Serbinenko's balloon catheter or a plastic embolus is the operation of choice.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
