Title: [What may be expected from psychotherapy- in the individual, in the group, in the social environment?]. Author: Battegay R. Journal: Z Psychosom Med Psychoanal; 1980; 26(3):217-34. PubMed ID: 7405416. Abstract: Every psychotherapy has the aim to help the treated person to encourage and to unfold as many of his inherent gifts as possible. As we try to show, based on an overview of the results reported in literature and on our own quantitative analyses, results of psychotherapy, in controlled approaches, can be observed, in individual psychotherapy as well as in psychotherapy in, with, or by a group. Ego-strength or -weakness in the patient and the capacity for empathy or the emphathic incapacity of the therapist respectively, seem to be decisive factors for the final outcome of any psychotherapy. Also the results are determined by the therapist's criteria for choosing patients. The popularisation of the psychotherapeutic ideas based on tolerance and empathy in the society is seen as the ultimate goal. Every social group ought to be prepared to build up a healthy equilibrium, which is not based upon the sick-role of handicapped people. People will generally have to learn to protect their liberty, not to live on the cost of the poor, and to recognize any political developments which could endanger human freedom, as early as possible.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
