Title: [Effectiveness of oxygen barotherapy in the initial forms of cerebral vascular diseases]. Author: Akimov GA, Lobzin VS, Sapov IA, Ter-Karapetian VA. Journal: Zh Nevropatol Psikhiatr Im S S Korsakova; 1980; 80(7):1012-6. PubMed ID: 7415718. Abstract: Results of evaluating the efficacy of hyperbaric oxygenation therapy in 104 patients with cerebrovascular diseases are presented. Of these patients, 32 had chronic cerebrovascular insufficiency, and 72 showed transient disturbances of the cerebral circulation. A good effect was noted in 74, a satisfactory in 22, and a doubtful in 8 patients. From clinical, electrophysiological, psychophysiological, biochemical, and ophthalmoscopic examinations it is concluded that hyperbaric oxygenation therapy is quite efficacious when used as part of complex therapy and as a means of prompt therapy of acute cerebrovascular crises. 3- to 5-year observations of patients who repeatedly given the hyperbaric oxygenation therapy at 6-month intervals allowed recommending it as a means for preventing cerebral strokes.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
