  • Title: [Adaptive changes in the blood during hypoxia of varying duration].
Author: Tavrovskaia TV, Tarakanova OI, Barbashova ZI.
Journal: Biull Eksp Biol Med; 1980 Oct; 90(10):416-8. PubMed ID: 7426702.
    Abstract:
A relationship has been established between erythropoiesis specificity and oxygen binding properties of the blood and hypoxic exposure. Relatively short-term adaptation to hypoxia produces phenotypic and quantitative rearrangements. Erythropoiesis of high tension gives rise to a great number of young short-lived red cells. Prolonged hypoxia induces qualitative genetically fixed changes.
