Title: The degree of susceptibility and levels of infection in ten different strains of Aedes polynesiensis Marks infected with subperiodic Brugia malayi and Brugia pahangi. Author: Duhrkopf RE, Trpis M. Journal: Am J Trop Med Hyg; 1980 Sep; 29(5):815-9. PubMed ID: 7435786. Abstract: Ten strains of Aedes polynesiensis were infected with subperiodic Brugia malayi and Brugia pahangi. Susceptibility to B. malayi ranged from 92.1--100%, and susceptibility to B. pahangi from 97.5--100%. Further analysis showed significant differences in the numbers of third-stage larvae both between parasites and between strains within parasites. Because of the high levels of susceptibility, it appears that Ae. polynesiensis provides an even better laboratory model for vector-parasite studies than the strains of Ae. aegypti currently used.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
