Title: Ectopic pregnancy after correct application of Hulka-Clemens clips. Author: O'Neill G, Bates J, Davies D, Mazzucchelli R. Journal: Med J Aust; 1980 Nov 15; 2(10):573. PubMed ID: 7464605. Abstract: The author presents a case in which ectopic pregnancy occurred 7 months after sterilization with Hulka-Clemens clips. When the clips are correctly applied, a failure rate of about 1/1000 has been observed. In this case, involving a 32-year old multigravida, both clips appeared to be correctly applied across the isthmus portion of each fallopian tube. However, the clip removed from the right tube revealed a damaged hinge mechanism. This resulted in incomplete closure between the opposing jaws, even though the spring was locked correctly in position and had maintained its elasticity. 1 other case of ectopic pregnancy after Hulka-Clemens clip application was reported in 1979. Bilateral salpingectomy is recommended in all patients with ectopic pregnancy who have been previously sterilized.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
