Title: [Middle fossa vestibular neurectomy: postoperative complications]. Author: de Diego Sastre JI, Melcón Díez E, Cabra Dueñas J. Journal: Acta Otorrinolaringol Esp; 1995; 46(2):82-4. PubMed ID: 7598972. Abstract: The middle fossa approach is frequently used for vestibular neurectomy in patients with Ménière's disease. Middle fossa vestibular neurectomy has been criticized for its surgical complications, especially transient facial paralysis. The complication rate of 198 middle fossa vestibular neurectomies performed between 1968 and 1992 is reported. Facial paralysis, wound infection, suture dehiscence, CSF leak, meningitis, subdural hematoma, dead ears, average hospitalization time and death were evaluated. The overall complication rate was 29.3%. The acceptable incidence of complications makes middle fossa vestibular neurectomy one of the most adequate surgical treatments for Ménière's disease.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
