Author: Sridhar MK, Jaiyeoba KT, Ashefor HO.
Journal: Afr J Med Med Sci; 1994 Jun; 23(2):181-5. PubMed ID: 7625309.
    Abstract:
A water disinfectant tablet containing calcium hypochlorite as the main ingredient has been developed using a variety of excipients to improve the tablet characteristics. Avicel, polyvinylpyrrolidone, sodium hydrogen carbonate, calcium carbonate, sodium chloride and potassium chloride were used. Inclusion of polyvinylpyrrolidone together with calcium carbonate gave better tablet characteristics. Avicel though gave better tablet characteristics, promoted loss of chlorine from the tablets. Inclusion of inorganic salts were not satisfactory as they, enhanced atmospheric water absorption.
