  • Title: Food and water restriction in the wrestler.
    Author: Hursh LM.
    Journal: JAMA; 1979 Mar 02; 241(9):915-6. PubMed ID: 762869.
    Abstract:
The present practice in wrestling of "making weight" is hazardous to the health of growing young men, primarily because competitors lose too high a percentage of body fat. The Tcheng-Tipton-Clarke method should be used to control food restriction, while observation of specific gravity of urine should be used to control fluid restriction and hydration.
