Title: [Primary hyperparathyroidism associated with sarcoidosis]. Author: Tomita A. Journal: Nihon Rinsho; 1995 Apr; 53(4):949-52. PubMed ID: 7752490. Abstract: Co-existence of primary hyperparathyroidism and sarcoidosis has been described in less than 50 cases since 1958. The mechanism of such an association is unknown. However, the steroid suppression test may be helpful in differentiating these two disorders. The hypercalcemia of sarcoidosis should be corrected with the steroid test. The measurement of parathyroid hormone (PTH) in serum is also helpful, for PTH levels are normal or reduced in sarcoidosis associated with hypercalcemia whereas in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism PTH levels are elevated.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
