Title: Ancient origin of RNA editing in kinetoplastid protozoa. Author: Simpson L, Maslov DA. Journal: Curr Opin Genet Dev; 1994 Dec; 4(6):887-94. PubMed ID: 7888760. Abstract: A rooted phylogenetic tree of the kinetoplastid protozoa has been constructed that, together with a comparative analysis of editing of several genes, leads to the surprising conclusion that extensive or pan-editing with multiple overlapping guide RNAs is more ancient than 5'-editing. The mechanism of editing is still uncertain, but multiple ribonucleoprotein complexes have been identified that contain components of the enzymatic machinery.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
