    Abstract:
The organizational and employment structures as well as activities of the occupational hygiene section of the sanitary and epidemiological services in Poland in 1992 are discussed. The information presented is based on special forms (Mz-50) and progress reports provided by individual units. Special emphasis is put on problems faced by these services in supervising placedu of employment. The need for regular training of occupational hygienists (public health managers) and improving qualifications of workers with secondary education employed in the area of occupational hygiene is stressed. An in-depth reform of occupational hygiene units is required as their present condition, as far as staff and equipment are concerned inables them to provide regular monitoring of harmful factors occurring in the occupational environment.
