Title: [Psychological management of breast cancer patients in a therapy group. II. Practical experience]. Author: Stegert-Oelke A. Journal: Z Lymphol; 1993 Dec; 17(2):58-60. PubMed ID: 8147090. Abstract: In 1991 group meetings have been established in the REHA-Klinik Damp to improve the coping ability of breast cancer patients. Information about the medical treatment was given to reduce uncertainty and anxiety. The psychical and social consequences, for instance, changes in self-consciousness and family life were discussed in their positive and negative aspects. Talking about their personal concerns and getting support by other women was a new experience for those who had not been in a self-help group before. Many breast cancer patients took the opportunity to reflect their needs and wishes to increase contentment in their lives. The following article describes the most important subjects being discussed in the group meetings and their significance for the coping ability of women with breast carcinoma.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
