Abstract: Creating metaphorical settings in which a patient may therapeutically interact while hypnotized would appear to have many of the advantages of more traditional uses of metaphors and to possess advantages of its own. Although this type of guided imagery may be widely used in practice, it is underrepresented in the literature compared to other uses of metaphor. I describe the use of a castle setting as one example of this type of metaphorical setting that may be useful in working with trauma patients.
