  • Title: [Heparin-associated thrombocytopenia as a problem in heparin therapy].
    Author: Schmidt S, Lüdtke-Handjery A, Lottermoser KH.
Journal: Chirurg; 1993 Sep; 64(9):715-9. PubMed ID: 8222929.
    Abstract:
The clinical picture of HAT (heparin-associated thrombocytopenia) is being described in reference to a typical case report. If not recognized in time, HAT may lead to serious thrombo-embolic complications, which may eventually lead to death. Considering the wide applications of routine heparin in therapy and prophylaxis, HAT deservers more clinical attention. Routine monitoring of platelet counts during heparin treatment is crucial and essential.
