    Abstract:
    This article has discussed current knowledge of the nutritional status of the healthy elderly population, possible nutritional risk with respect to individual nutrients, and how nutritional needs of the elderly compare with those of younger adults. Application of these findings to the total elderly population will involve the disciplines of gerontology and medicine with respect to the psychological, social, and economic aspects of aging and to the special needs of the ill and frail elderly segment of this population.
