Title: [Comparison and presentation of technique and results of the gamma nail and dynamic hip screw]. Author: Landolt M. Journal: Helv Chir Acta; 1993 Jun; 59(5-6):965-9. PubMed ID: 8376170. Abstract: The predicted increase in the ageing population and the associated increase in fractures of the proximal femur have turned the search for improved treatment methods into a permanent task. If the DHS and the Gamma nail are compared, the Gamma nail has a more advantageous lever arm and has proved more reliable in both static and dynamic testing. Prospective studies have shown no significant differences in operation time, loss of blood or duration of hospitalisation. The Gamma nail enables earlier mobilisation; the mortality rate is the same for both procedures. In reference to Gamma nailing it is worth noting the occurrence of intra and postoperative femoral fractures in 1-8% of cases.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
