Abstract: Recent publications have questioned the benefit of extensive routine follow-up measures in all patients that have undergone treatment for head and neck cancer. Both the poor detection rate of asymptomatic early tumor lesions and the severe limitations that are encountered with regard to further treatment options require an individual follow-up protocol mainly depending on site, size, and treatment of the respective tumor.
