Title: [Risk of hemorrhage with the use of fluoxetine (Prozac) or fluvoxamine (Fevarin)]. Author: Ottervanger JP, van den Bemt PM, de Koning GH, Stricker BH. Journal: Ned Tijdschr Geneeskd; 1993 Jan 30; 137(5):259-61. PubMed ID: 8433763. Abstract: Fluoxetine (Prozac) and fluvoxamine (Fevarin) are nontricyclic serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine) reuptake inhibitors prescribed for the treatment of depression. Since these drugs block serotonin reuptake in platelets also, they might under certain conditions lead to clinically significant platelet dysfunction. Four patients are described who developed bleeding during treatment with either fluoxetine or fluvoxamine.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
