  • Title: [Actinomycosis of the uterine tube as a complication of intrauterine anticonception (author's transl)].
    Author: Kohoutek M, Nozicka Z.
Journal: Cesk Gynekol; 1977 Feb; 42(1):28-9. PubMed ID: 844110.
    Abstract:
Actinomycosis of the genitals is considered to be a problem of growing importance in gynecological practice. Over 200 cases were reported in the world literature for 1967 alone. An individual case is described here, involving a 29-year-old patient in whom actinomycosis of the uterine tube was observed while a Dana Super IUD was being extracted. This examination took place while the patient was being examined for severe stomach pain 1 month after insertion of the device. Intensive inflammatory therapy was undertaken which failed to stop the progressive course of the disease. General cachexia necessitated an andexotomy and salpingectomy, accompanied by antibiotics. A definite link to the insertion of the IUD could not be determined, but it was considered to be a significant factor, which is substantiated by the reports of other studies.
