Abstract: The various agents of the superficial mycoses have been recognized for more than a century as causes of mild diseases affecting humankind. Two of these, Malassezia furfur and Trichosporon beigelii, are ubiquitous organisms now known to be opportunistic pathogens in susceptible patient populations.
