  • Title: The radical scavenging abilities of a new anti-nephritic drug, OPC-15161.
    Author: Ozawa T, Nakano Y.
Journal: Biochem Mol Biol Int; 1996 Feb; 38(2):231-8. PubMed ID: 8850518.
    Abstract:
A new anti-nephritic drug, 6-(1H-indol-3-ylmethyl)-5-methoxy-3-(2-methylpropyl)-2-(1H)-pyr azi none 4-oxide (OPC-15161), a natural product derivative, did not react with the free radical, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and was only slightly reactive with superoxide (O2-), but it easily reacted with hydroxyl radical (.OH). The scavenging ability of OPC-15161 against .OH was dependent on its concentration, and formed a new radical species by reaction with .OH. The structure of this new radical species is proposed.
