Title: Dorsal unpaired median (DUM) neurones with neurohaemal functions in the locust, Locusta migratoria. Author: Bräunig P. Journal: Acta Biol Hung; 1995; 46(2-4):471-9. PubMed ID: 8853720. Abstract: Certain members of the class of dorsal unpaired median (DUM) neurones do not only innervate skeletal muscles, but they also establish neurohaemal release sites on the surface of peripheral nerves. These release sites may be associated with well-known neurohaemal organs, but they also occur in other parts of the peripheral nervous system. These DUM neurones are most likely responsible for the release of octopamine into the haemolymph as has been observed in certain behavioural contexts.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
