Title: [The prevention of dengue in Guadeloupe]. Author: Gustave J. Journal: Bull Soc Pathol Exot; 1996; 89(2):143-4. PubMed ID: 8924773. Abstract: Dengue is the only disease transmitted by mosquitoes in the Guadeloupe islands of French Antilles. Two dengue outbreaks were reported in 1992 and 1994. Aedes aegypti is recognized the only vector of dengue in Guadeloupe, and the 200 l drums are the most important breeding-sites. Vector control in Guadeloupe includes community health education, larvicide and adulticide spraying, and the destruction of the breeding-sites. However, Ae. aegypti control has limitations such as the lack of participation from the local population, and the resistance of Ae. aegypti to the insecticides. Prevention of dengue in Guadeloupe will rely on a reinforcement of the community education, the development of new tools to control Ae. aegypti, mechanical tools and biological control, and the improvement of the epidemiological surveillance.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
