Title: Mouthrinses as adjuncts in periodontal therapy. Author: Walsh TF. Journal: Dent Update; 1996 May; 23(4):144-7. PubMed ID: 8948174. Abstract: Periodontal diseases are a group of related inflammatory disorders, initiated by dental plaque and causing destruction of the supporting structures of the teeth. Although the inflammatory response is a fundamental defence mechanism against bacterial infection, its persistence over a long period of time may extensively damage the periodontal tissues: cementum, alveolar bone, periodontal ligament and dentogingival tissues. These disorders, despite recent improvements in oral health are still a major cause of tooth loss in patients over 35 years of age.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
