Title: Severe perforating injuries treated with pars plana vitrectomy. Author: Benson WE, Machemer R. Journal: Am J Ophthalmol; 1976 Jun; 81(6):728-32. PubMed ID: 937425. Abstract: Forty-one patients underwent vitrectomy through the pars plana for sequelae of severe penetrating injuries. Almost all were inoperable by conventional techniques. After a minimum follow-up time of six months, 13 eyes (32%) had visual improvement and six (15%) were technical successes.
