    Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to examine the efficacy of urgent endoscopic hemostasis from bleeding peptic ulcers. The hemostatic effect of injection therapy in the treatment of peptic ulcer bleeding was examined in 164 cases. In 83 percent of patients bleeding was controlled endoscopically immediately, but in 19 percent of those patients, rebleeding was observed. In these patients successful repeated injection was performed. The review of our results of the treatment of acute peptic ulcer bleeding since 1988 to 1996 in 419 patients revealed the advantage of urgent endoscopic hemostasis, which was introduced in our hospital from 1994. Endoscopic hemostasis decreased the incidence of emergency operations from 51 to 17 percent, but the mortality rate was not significantly different.
