Title: Application of polymerase chain reaction for the detection of herpes simplex virus DNA. Author: Biesiadecka A, Litwińska B. Journal: Acta Microbiol Pol; 1997; 46(4):405-8. PubMed ID: 9516988. Abstract: Cerebrospinal fluids from 11 patients with encephalitis were studied for the presence of HSV specific DNA sequences. Also, the applicability of the PCR technique for HSV DNA detection in brain tissue of experimental animals infected with HSV-1 was tested. Our results indicated that PCR is effective, rapid and sensitive method to detect of HSV DNA in a variety of specimens. Obtained sensitivity was 4 copies of infectious HSV genome.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
