Title: Letter: Estrogen and bone loss. Author: Lindsay R. Journal: Arch Intern Med; 1976 Sep; 136(9):1068. PubMed ID: 962453. Abstract: Further results of a longitudinal study of the preventive effects of estrogens against postmenopausal osteoporosis are reported. 1st, it is pointed out that bone loss was measured by a modified photo absorption technique originally developed by Cameron and Sorensen. Preliminary results could not confirm a beneficial effect of estrogens 6 years after oophorectomy, primarily because the follow-up period was limited to 1-2 years. However, a more extensive follow-up period verified the preventive effect of estrogens on bone loss. The therapeutic use of parathyroid hormone for treatment of osteoporosis is briefly noted.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
