Title: Carotid string sign resulting from an aberrant branch of the internal carotid artery. Author: Brooks AJ, Behm GM, Baxter BT, Lynch TG. Journal: J Cardiovasc Surg (Torino); 1998 Apr; 39(2):163-5. PubMed ID: 9638998. Abstract: Branches of the extracranial internal carotid artery are very rare. A case is reported wherein an aberrant artery originated from the bulb of the internal carotid artery (ICA) approximately 2 cm from the bifurcation. The ICA was occluded distal to the branch's origin. Arteriography in this case gave the appearance of a carotid "string sign". Vascular surgeons and radiologists should be aware of this anomaly when interpreting carotid arteriograms.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
