    Abstract:
Closed interlocking nailing is the most advanced development of Küntscher nailing. The method is indicated mainly for comminuted diaphyseal fractures of the femur and tibia. Locking nailing has biological and biomechanical advantages in comparison with plate osteosynthesis. Unreamed technique of nailing is indicated even in polytrauma patients and open fractures. Our experience with locking nailing confirms the results of leading trauma centres that the method of locking nailing should be considered as the method of choice in the treatment of severe comminuted diaphyseal fractures.
