Title: [Surgery of the larynx and phonation theories]. Author: Cabrera Trigo J. Journal: An Otorrinolaringol Ibero Am; 1998; 25(4):331-8. PubMed ID: 9707754. Abstract: Partial or subtotal surgery of the larynx and its subsequent structural rehabilitation determine a change in the endolaryngeal tract, which is characterized by an irregular aerial passage which brought about a new mechanism for voice production. This mechanism neither report nor adjust to the movements of the healthy larynx in order to preserve the voice qualities of the normal subject. On the contrary, the new voice has inhabitual functions as muscular fasciculations instead of adductive movements, has an expiratory subglottic vector without subglottic pressure and the air proceed turbulent through anfractuous spaces. And besides there are other asymmetric significative changes in regard to the statements of phonatory theories, classic or modern. Before these circumstances it is imperative to offer some hypothesis in order to explain the postsurgical laryngeal voice.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
