    Many breast cancer patients experience swelling of the arm and hand following treatment, a condition known as lymphedema. This article discusses the causes of lymphedema, its signs and symptoms, imaging and measurement techniques used to evaluate lymphedema and current approaches to treatment. The importance of patient education and the need for more research on lymphedema also are emphasized.
