  • 23. On call. I am 62 years old and I've always been very healthy. At my last annual checkup, however, my blood pressure was 166/96. My doctor told me to cut down on drinking to lower my pressure. I usually have a cocktail or two before dinner and two or three glasses of wine with my meal. Is my doctor right?

  • 30. Ask the doctor. I need to catheterize myself because of bladder problems. In April 2007, I had five stents put in my heart and started taking Plavix. Since then, I sometimes see a light tinge of blood in the catheter bag, though lately the blood flow has been more substantial. The book "Worst Pills, Best Pills" says Plavix should be used for only a limited time, but my internist tells me I should be on it for the rest of my life. I am 88 years old and take aspirin (325 mg) every day. How long will I need to take Plavix?

  • 36. On call. I am a 64-year-old man, quite healthy except for high blood pressure, which was diagnosed last year. My doctor gave me Hydro-Diuril, which was only partly successful. Then he added Prinivil, but I had to stop it because of a terrible cough. Now he wants me to take Lopressor, but I've read the package insert and I'm worried about side effects--especially sexual problems, since I already have problems in that area. Do I have to take the pills?

I've started having trouble with my erections, and now I want to try Viagra. My doctor gave me a prescription, but my wife won't let me fill it. Is Viagra safe for me?
